A Computational World

Computers are amazing things. I have this thought following a spate of uploading files and refreshing web pages that are calculating computational data from arrays and data from various sources. The the sheer thought of how fast a few pages of 1000 or so lines can be read has just got my mind whirring in a buzz of what could be.

It may be down to the speed of the internet dramatically increasing daily that has prompted me to realise just how powerful a computer is. Developing locally on a computer you tend to overlook the speed expecting it to be fast, because its right in front of you, not 5000 miles away in a data centre. But seeing my latest project perform in an instant of hitting refresh it made me realise just how fast computers really are, and how powerful their “minds” are. It made me wonder just how close we truly are to the “Matrix” world where computers are able to think for themselves and have the computational power to build a whole planet in our minds.
